17 months old!

Child's name: Ethan Richard

Age: 17 months

Weight: I'm guessing around mid 27lbs

Height: around 33in

Physical abilities: Walking, running, trying to jump, climbing (particularly the TV chest...oh my!)

Speech/language: Lots of babbling and strings of babbling that sound like sentences. Says mama and dada, mmmmm (for moo), baa for sheep, and I think I heard a 'shoo' (shoe) the other day. Uses his baby signs all the time, especially 'please.' He thinks that if he signs please, he'll get whatever he wants (even if its another cookie!)

Reading/pre-reading: Loves his books! His favorites this month are "Barnyard Dance," a Thanksgiving book, and a new book "You are my sunshine." He dances from side to side when we read that one. He's also adorable when it comes to reading. He grabs the book he wants, comes over to use, turns around, and plops himself into our lap. Love it!

Other cognitive stuff: He is my thinker and you can see him just taking everything in and trying to make connections. It's fascinating to watch!

Eating: I made a mistake this month and gave both boys snickerdoodles as a treat one day. They are obsessed! He also started using a fork this month and prefers it now. He struggles at times using his fork to stick his food and he'll get frustrated, but so excited when he's successful.

Sleeping: Down to one nap! He was starting to fight the second nap, so we knew it was time to go down to one nap. He'll sleep for about 3 hours from around 12:30-3:30. Still a great nighttime sleeper and sleeps from 7pm-7am.

Social: He switches almost daily on who he prefers- mama or dada. He has also gotten into giving hugs frequently lately. The absolute cutest is when he gives Chase a hug!

Character/personality: My rough and tumble little guy! He's adventurous and definitely already testing our boundaries. His latest test is climbing the TV chest to look out the window. We bought him a little step stool so that he can use that to look out the other window without climbing on the TV chest.

Child's name: Chase Adam

Age: 17 months

Weight: I'm guessing around 24lb

Height: around 33.5in

Physical abilities: We have steps!! He took his first steps at Kindermusik one night. He started walking 8-10 steps like he had always been doing it. He's been cautious since then, but slowly walking more and more if he's able to pull himself up on something to get started. He hasn't figured out how to stand up by himself in the middle of a room.

Speech/language: Babbles non-stop! Says mama, dada, shoe, kitty, mmmm, snorts for a pig, baa for sheep, Chese for Chase. Signs more, eat, please, thank you, and milk.

Reading/pre-reading: Will cuddle to read a story or two before needing to move onto the next thing to do.

Other cognitive stuff: Loves stacking rings together and is getting better at shape sorters. He's able to find the circle and star usually.

Eating: Still a very picky eater. Unfortunately his favorite food is hot dogs and mac and cheese. We keep offering other options and if he refuses to eat them, we offer fruit. Thankfully he loves fruit, so he'll usually gobble that down. He's also getting really good at using his fork. He can stick his food most times and prefers to use a fork now.

Sleeping: Knock on wood, but I would say that he's sleeping through the night now! We have a few random nights that he'll wake up, but as a whole now, he's sleeping from 7pm-6:30am. We did bump up bedtime from 8pm to 7pm and that has seemed to help. We even survived the time change without too many issues.

Social: My little cuddlebug! Loves to snuggle and give hugs and has started giving kisses at bedtime. Love it!

Character/personality: Still a very cautious little guy. He doesn't like to fall when trying new things.
