Physical abilities: He’s gotten a little more nervous lately trying some new things. He fell once from the rope swing at gym class and won’t try it again since then. He still loves running around and climbing things and had been jumping more including jumping off of higher things (like the higher mats at the gym).
Speech/language: Doing so well! He gets lots of compliments about how well he talks for his age. His IU Preschool evaluation is next month, so we’ll see if he even qualifies for the program. He talks in complete sentences, is beginning to imitate some correct grammar, and can retell what he did that day or the day before. He’s also beginning to grasp the concept of time between today and yesterday. He also had ear tubes put in, so hopefully we’ll see a big improvement with his speech now. His favorite phrase right now is “What you doing, _______?” He asks it over and over again!
Reading/pre-reading: Still loves his books and will sit and retell a story looking at the pictures. His favorite book right now is “Benny and the Chocolate Bunny,” which also has him convinced that the Easter bunny is going to bring him a chocolate bunny. He’s recognizing letters- he can probably recognize about half of them now. He knows that E is for Ethan and C is for Chase and can sometimes get that M is for Mommy and D is for Daddy.
Other cognitive stuff: Can count to ten consistently and can count to 20 at times! He can count objects up to 5 on his own and up to 10 with help. He can sing his ABC's and loves to sing songs like Pat a Cake, Jingle Bells, and his new favorite from gym class The Goldfish. He knows all his numbers up to 12 and will tell you which Thomas train goes with which number (ie Thomas is number 1, Gordon is number 4, etc). Number 4 is his favorite number since its Gordon’s number.
Eating: Still very picky. If he had his way, he’d eat peanut butter and jelly for every meal day in and day out.
Sleeping: One three hour nap from about 1-4pm. He got his own room recently and night time sleep has been a little disrupted with the switch. Most nights, he goes to sleep fine in his new room, but some nights he puts up a fight and other nights, he wakes up in the middle of the night crying, but won’t tell us what’s wrong. He did fall out of his crib, so I think he’s a little scared of that. We bought him some bookshelves to mount on his wall, which I think will help since he used to love to look at books in his room. I also have some pictures I want to hang up to help make his room more cozy.
Social: Still a pretty shy guy and nervous around characters. We went to an egg hunt at Hersheypark and he did not like it when we saw the Hershey Bar character! He does well in new situations, though, and gets excited to try new things. We visited his preschool for next year and he loved it and didn’t want to leave.
Character/personality: Such a sweet, easy going guy! He loves his trains and is happy as can be when he’s playing with Thomas. He does like to have some certain things his way, like which color sippy cup, but thankfully, his brother is easy going when it comes to those things.
Potty Training: He is showing a lot of interest in potty training and will sit on the potty. He has both peed and pooped in the potty a few times, though he still doesn’t recognize the feeling of needing to go. He gets a small Hershey Kiss for peeing and a big Hershey Kiss for pooping, which he loves. And he’s very excited for “when I’m all done with diapers, Mommy, I get Gordon!” We bought a talking Gordon train and have it sitting on the kitchen window sill and he’s very motivated to get Gordon.

Physical abilities: Getting more and more steady on his feet. He had ear tubes put in February and it has helped his balance. He’ll step up a single step now without holding onto anything and has trying walking down the steps by himself holding onto the railing. Big steps for him!!
Speech/language: Still my little talker and will chatter away to himself in the morning when he wakes up. He’s becoming such a polite little boy and will say Please and Thank you appropriately. He also tends to say “Sorry” a lot when he doesn’t necessarily need to be sorry. He’s just trying to be polite!
Reading/pre-reading: He loves storytime before bed. He doesn’t have a specific favorite book, but loves all the theme books that I pull out for each holiday or season. Right now, he loves all the Easter books.
Other cognitive stuff: He can count consistently up to ten and up to 20 at times. He can count objects to 3 on his own and tries to count objects up to 10, but tends to skip numbers. He can sing the whole alphabet and will sing it in funny voices to be silly. He can recognize A, B, C, D, and E, and a few other random letters. He can recognize 1, 2, and 3.
Eating: He’s getting to be a much better eater and will try things besides just PB&J or chicken nuggets.
Sleeping: Night time sleep has been much better and he sleeps through the night most nights unless he’s not feeling well. He just got his own room and has done so well with it! No issues going to sleep or sleeping through the night. He does miss having Ethan there with him in the morning to chat and sing with him (I miss that too!). He fights naps some days and it takes him a little longer to fall asleep, even though he definitely needs that nap to make it through the day with major meltdowns.
Social: Such a social guy! He loves to be around others and if you play with him or make him laugh, he will be your new best friend! He loves to play with other kids (especially his brother), but has a hard time sharing a toy if he wants it.
Character/personality: He’s going to be a little charmer! He loves to make people laugh and smile. His smile can light up the room.
Potty Training: He's showing a little interest in potty training. He's sat on the potty a few times and peed in the potty once, but doesn't have much interest in sitting on the potty all that often. He is excited to get Henry when he's all done with diapers, though!
