Age: 2 years 6 months
Weight: about 33 lbs
Height: around 36/37 inches
Physical abilities: He loves gym class right now! Loves to jump on the trampoline and hang from the rings. He was even adventurous and swung on the rope and 'flew' using the rope belt that they use for the older gymnasts to practice flips.
Speech/language: He's doing to well with his speech. He's caught up and even ahead in some areas with his speech. Uses lots of full 5-7 word sentences and using more difficult words like ornaments. He had a break from speech while his therapist while on maternity leave and continued to make great progress on his own. He's no longer dropping final consonants and starting to use the tw- and gw- blends.
Reading/pre-reading: We have a Good Night, Thomas book that we have to read every time before naps and bed. Both boys have to be in their cribs or they fuss. Ethan loves to bounce in his crib while I read it and he says parts of the story along with me. After we read some books, he'll sit by himself and talk about the pictures and read the story back to himself.
Other cognitive stuff: Can count to ten consistently and can count to 20 at times! He can count objects up to 5 on his own and up to 10 with help. He can sing his ABC's and loves to sing songs like Pat a Cake, Jingle Bells, and his new favorite from gym class The Goldfish.
Eating: Still very picky and very stubborn. When he doesn't want to try something, he stands his ground. Not even a Hershey Kiss or a lollipop will bride him! He finally tried noodles again after refusing to eat them for a long while, so hopefully he made the connection to the Hershey Kiss bride and will be more adventurous with his eating.
Sleeping: One three hour nap from about 1-4pm. Still a good night time sleeper and sleeps from about 8pm to 7am. He has to have his Cookie Monster stuffed animal, his Thomas pillow, and his Wubbanub ducks to go to bed. We're down to one duck, so hopefully we'll be pacifier free soon! He doesn't like to be tucked in, but when he lets me tuck him in, it has to be with the circle pattern on his blanket facing up. Even when he's half asleep, he makes sure to tell me "circles up!"
Social: My shy guy! He was terrified of Santa at the beginning of the season, but we talked a lot about Santa and he had several opportunities to just look at Santa and watch other kids go up, talk to him, and sit on his lap. By the end, we successfully talked to Santa and stood by him without tears! So proud of my little guy! He's also realizing that he has little friends now and loves to talk about going to their houses. He's having some trouble with sharing his trains because he likes to play with all of them himself. We're working on the sharing.
Character/personality: Becoming quite the charmer! He knows when and how to smile and talk in a sweet voice to get what he wants. He's especially charming in the middle of the night and often gets to come to Mama and Dada's room because he's so sweet asking about it.
Child's name: Chase Adam
Age: 2 years 6 months
Weight: 31lbs
Height: 36/37 inches
Physical abilities: Getting faster and faster! We used to be able to catch him while he was running just by walking behind him. Now we're having to pick up the pace to keep up with him.
Speech/language: He's a little talker! If I had a penny for every time he said "Mommy, mommy, MOMMY!" I'd be rich ;) He's doing all the age appropriate speech simplifications. He'll say "thank you" appropriately and loves to say "hello" to people.
Reading/pre-reading: He'll sit and look at a book by himself and tell the story to himself by looking at the pictures. Starting to recognize environmental print and definitely recognizes the "McDonald's" Golden Arch and yells "Chicken nunnets!" whenever he sees it. Funny thing is that he doesn't even like their chicken nuggets!
Other cognitive stuff: He can count consistently up to ten and up to 20 at times. He can count objects to 3 on his own and tries to count objects up to 10, but tends to skip numbers He's working on his alphabet and can sing 'abcde..g...lmnop....s...vwxyz" He knows his shapes and colors.
Eating: Going through a picky stage, but easily bribed to try something new. He'll do almost anything for a lollipop or a Hershey Kiss!
Sleeping: Sleeping through the night on a much more consistent basis! But he switched that to waking up in the middle of his nap. About half way through his nap, he stirs, cries out, and whimpers until I go up to tuck him in again with his blanket and put his Thomas pillow under his head again.
Social: Loves to be around other people and hates to miss out on any action. He was a bit shy around Santa, but I think that was because Ethan was shy. He tries to be very helpful and will share his toys with others if it makes them happy.
Character/personality: Definitely full of character! He has a smile that lights up the room and loves to make people laugh. He takes after his mama and is a bit head strong. If he wants something, he wants it now and isn't happy when he doesn't get it right away.
Lots of fun times this season!
