Christmas!

December used to be a very difficult month for me. My dad passed away on December 12, the due date from my miscarriage was December 10, and many IF testing memories happened in December. Add that with dealing with infertility, and it was hard to be excited for Christmas. There is something magical about seeing Christmas through a child's eye and it was difficult to know what we were missing out on.

And magical it was! We prepped for the holiday season by picking out our Christmas tree, going on a holiday trolley ride with our local twin group, baking cookies, and visiting Santa and his reindeer. So much fun to do with excited little children!

What a fun wonderful month it was leading up to Christmas!

Our festivities started on Christmas Eve. Every year we got to my Aunt Megan's house to celebrate with my side of the family. We get dressed up, go to church, and have dinner together. Seeing as its been 12 years since I've lived by my family, we did get lost going to the church and ended up needing to stand at the back of the church. Overall, the boys did a great job at church. Chase cuddled with me and flirted with everyone around us. Ethan got a little bit antsy, so Adam took him to the lobby to stand there since he could walk around. When Adam left with Ethan, Chase looked around, threw his hands up in his confused hand motion, and said "huh?" That caused everyone around us to laugh, which in turn caused Chase to do the same thing two more times. It really was just too cute! Dinner was yummy, though a bit tension filled with some family drama. After dinner, the boys opened up a few gifts. Chase apparently learned a new word. When he opened up some clothes from my aunt, he held them up and for a good five minutes, repeated "WOW!" over and over again. And now, its his new favorite word!

After a fairly calm drive home, we put out our cookies, milk, and carrots for Santa and his reindeer, and headed up to bed. Then the magic started! Santa came!

Chase tried to wake bright and early, but after a late night before, we were able to catch a few more minutes of sleep by snuggling in bed together. He decided that 7am was the longest he could wait to see what Santa brought, so we went and woke Ethan up. I would love to know what was going on in the boys' heads today as all the excitement unfolded. We took the obligatory picture of the boys waiting at the top of the steps

And then they were off! This is when they turned the corner and caught sight of their new cars. Their cars were a hit and we had to wait a while before they were willing to open up their other presents.

After presents, we had a yummy breakfast of reindeer pancakes!

After breakfast, we headed to my in-laws to open presents there and have lunch. They were spoiled by the grandparents and Adam's extended family. Lots of Thomas toys, trucks, and tractors! E&C got a little overwhelmed at this point with the amount of presents, people, and commotion. We ate lunch, then headed home for a nap before the last round of presents. As I was cleaning, I made the mistake of waking Chase up way to early from his nap by being too loud. He was definitely still tired as he didn't fight me at all when I took him into our bed to snuggle and finish his nap. I even took a nap too! Love the extra snuggle time!

After their nap, my mom and sister came up for dinner and presents. At this point, the boys were wound up! They were spoiled again with blocks, zoo animals, and even a trampoline! That was their favorite as they bounced the night away.

Sadly, it was soon time for bed and Christmas Day was over. E&C were having just too much fun and as soon as we said the word bed, they both started crying. They settled down once we got their PJs on. They played for a few more minutes, but then Adam said the word 'sleep sacks' and Ethan started sobbing again. He just was not ready for Christmas to be over!

Thank goodness for a bedtime routine and he settled down to read a few stories with Daddy. We tucked them into bed with their new blankets and just marveled at how amazing Christmas is when you have children. And we took a moment to be thankful that we have been given the opportunity to see just how amazing it can be. I've experienced enough Christmases filled with heartache longing for children to share it with, so every little moment from this Christmas is something we'll treasure forever.
