19 months old!

Child's name: Ethan Richard

Age: 19 months

Weight: 27lbs 10oz at his 18.5 month check up

Height: 34in at his check up

Physical abilities: We got him a mini trampoline for Christmas and he was in love! Squeals of excitement and he gets the biggest grin on his face. Still loves to climb and run and is getting fast when he tries to run away from you.

Speech/language: Lots of babbling, lots of signs, and has learned a new sign for Thomas the Train. His love of trains also inspired his first true word- choo, choo! Still doesn't have any other words, so we're set up for a speech evaluation through Early Intervention next month.

Reading/pre-reading: Loves to read and really enjoying pointing to pictures in books lately. His favorite is to point back and forth between two pictures and have us repeat what each picture is. We do have to watch out if we don't start reading fast enough though...sometimes we get a book to the head!

Other cognitive stuff: Really getting into imaginative play, especially with his trains. He loves to connect them together and make a really soft chu, chu, chu sound, then a louder choo, choo sound. Adorable! He's also getting quick with his shape sorters and larger shape puzzles.

Eating: We all got sick with the stomach bug around New Years and then Ethan came down with bronchitis and an ear infection all in a week. He went through a really picky stage and didn't want to eat much for a while. He also did not like Pedilyte, Gatorade, or anything we tried to give him to keep him hydrated. I tricked him once by getting the unflavored Pedilyte, but after that he refused to drink anything else but milk. I even tried ginger ale, which I thought he'd love, but it was a no go.

Sleeping: One three hour nap from about 1-4pm. Still a good night time sleeper and sleeps from about 7:30pm to 6:30am. We knew something was wrong with him around New Years since he just could not be comforted back to sleep no matter what we tried. So not like Ethan!

Social: started daycare this month and did so well! He loves the daycare provider and didn't cry at all his first day. I was so proud of him! He even napped well, which I was really worried about. I think he's loving spending time with new friends and having new toys to play with.

Character/personality: Still my laid back guy, but don't mess with his Thomas! That's the only time he gets mad at Chase.

Weight: 27lbs 3oz at 18.5 months...he has officially caught up to Ethan!

Height: 33.75in at 18.5 months

Physical abilities: Rarely crawls anymore! Still a bit wobbly on his feet, but he's getting there. He's also figured out how to stand up in the middle of the room without pulling up on anything.

Speech/language: Our little verbal guy! Definitely into repeating whatever we say (gotta watch what we say now!) and starting to use his words more and more instead of just repeating words and phrases. Some favorites- "There it goes!" when he sends a car down his race track

Reading/pre-reading: When he wants to read, you better read! He loves to hand a book to Adam and then crawl all over him to find a comfy spot to listen. He's also getting more interested in Thomas books...I think because he wants to be like Ethan.

Other cognitive stuff: Starting to match colors and getting much, much better with his shape sorters and puzzles. We got them Doodle Pros for Christmas and he loves drawing with them.

Eating: Was very, very picky after being sick. He wouldn't even eat his favorites, like pizza!

Sleeping: Thankfully, still sleeping through the night. We got the boys blankets for Christmas and he loves to be tucked in with his blanket. Some nights he tries to turn it into a game by laying down to be tucked in, then standing up with a big smile, then laying down to be tucked in again.

Social: Started daycare and loves it! I was worried about how he would do having to share attention with more kids, but has done so well so far! Thankfully, he reserves his hitting just to his brother (we're still working on that....)

Character/personality: Becoming more of a follower of his twin brother. He wants to do whatever Ethan is doing. I think Chase loves the idea of being a twin, as he jumps to give him a hug or a kiss or the chance to play with him.
